Volume 2, Issue 3 WELCOME to e-NEWS from the HCHS
Foundation
e-NEWS is published to help
alumni and friends of Hinsdale Central High School keep current with the
school and the Foundation. If you still live in the area, we hope the news
will entice you to come out for events and see a great group of young
people in action. For alums and friends alike, we encourage you to take
part in the Central community by supporting the Foundation in its efforts
to enrich the exceptional educational environment that exists at our
school.
MAKING SURE EVERY STUDENT GETS WHATS NEEDED TO SUCCEED Recently, the Board of Directors of the
Hinsdale Central Foundation made a major commitment to fund a program
designed to improve the academic achievement of under performing students.
We know the high school has a sterling reputation for graduating well
prepared students. Yet in this era of tight school district budgets, we
are concerned that insufficient resources are being allocated to those
young people who need additional help to improve their academic abilities.
Our hope is to work with the high school administration and to
encourage it to be as creative as possible in helping youngsters in the
bottom 10% of their class achieve great things, too. The Foundation
assumes that the challenge can be met; we are unwilling to accept that
such a program cannot succeed or that a lack of funding makes the effort
impossible. Toward
this goal, we ask each and every Central graduate to join with us and make
a special contribution. If each newsletter recipient were to
donate $25, the Foundation could raise over $60,000 for this project. I
can think of a no more compelling reason to be generous to your alma
mater. John Zaremba HCHS Foundation President YOU CAN STILL RESERVE A TEE TIME AT OUR MAJOR FUNDRAISER! Dont miss the fun and your chance to

recognize 85 students for their achievements at Central. These young
people have exhibited leadership in and out of the classroom. Their
commitment to excellence is laudable. We salute you all. Want to know who

ON AT CENTRAL! Thanks to devils advocate for assisting with news of student activities. CENTRAL CELEBRATES 125TH ANNIVERSARY Hard to believe, but Hinsdale Central opened its doors in 1880. This fall, the school will recognize 125 years of service to the young people of the community. Activity Director Pamela Kalafut invites all past Homecoming Queens and Kings as well as past Captains of the football teams to join in the 2004 fall festivities. If you sat on a Homecoming throne or captained a football team, please contact Pam at [email protected] or 630.570.8271. If you weren't singled out for royal honors, you are still most welcome to help Central celebrate a very special birthday. We hope to see you in the stands! ODDS & ENDS TRIVIA CORNERThe Class of 57 has industriously
compiled forgotten facts about Hinsdale Central and its attendance areas.
Here is one of their memory teasers. Answer will appear in the next
edition of the Foundations e-NEWS. If you have a stumper youd like
to share, send it to [email protected].
Remember to include the question and answer plus your name and class. What was the name of the five & dime store on the west side of Washington Street between Hinsdale Avenue and First Street? Answer: Cherrys MEMORABILIA IN DEMAND Whether you remember Central as HTHS or
HCHS, we need you. An effort is underway to obtain school memorabilia for
display in the Alumni Room. Donations are most welcome and will be
credited in your name while on display. Or loan your memorabilia if you
cant part with it forever. Contact Charla Russell, District 86 director
of community relations, at (630) 570.8212 or send an e-mail to
[email protected]. THE BOOSTERS CLUB There are lots of reasons to support
Boosters Club, but the best might be that this is the only place to get
Central spirit attireshirts, pants, caps, jackets, cushions,
warmups, socks, accessories of all kinds. For that special gift or
something just for you, go to www.theboosters.com.
