Linda Hurt

One of my fondest memories is that two weeks after I began teaching in 1971, I got my first paycheck. We used to get paid every two weeks. I looked down at it. It was for $600.00!!! Honestly, I thought to myself..."and i get PAID for this????" I had not realized the pay cycle and was wide eyed about it! Also, over the years, I have kept in contact with many students who have remained friends with me over the years and now I have had the privilege of having THEIR children in my classes. I sometimes tell them "don't act up...I know your momma...." But they seldom do. I've even diapered a few of them!

During sports seasons, I would usually go to the frosh games, because everyone goes to the varsity, and I mostly have frosh in my classes. I remember asking my frosh football players to give me their numbers and I would come watch. One Saturday morning, I took my lawnchair, got a cup of coffee and with list in hand I went to watch the games, alternating between the A and B squads. One parent looked over at me and said "do you have a son on the team?" I answered, "no....just a whole bunch of boys" Then I would show them the list. Sometimes THEIR child would be on it! Its been a rewarding career and its kept me young!

Remember what positive impact these good people had on your experience at Hinsdale Central? Please make a contribution in his/her name to the Foundation. It would be a wonderful tribute to them and help Hinsdale continue its outstanding tradition!
