![]() December 2004Volume 3 Issue 1 WELCOME to e-NEWS from the HCHS Foundation e-NEWS is published to help alumni and friends of Hinsdale Central High School keep current with the school and the Foundation. If you still live in the area, we hope the news will entice you to come out for events and see a great group of young people in action. For alums and friends alike, we encourage you to take part in the Central community by supporting the Foundation in its efforts to enrich the exceptional educational environment that exists at our school. HALL OF FAME NIGHT 2004 The Hinsdale Central High School Foundation honored the following individuals as the Class of 2004 in the Hinsdale Central Hall of Fame.Leslie Hindman Details about their accomplishments, and other Hall of Famers, can be found at www.hchsfoundation.org/hall_of_fame.htm. RECOMMEND SOMEONE YOU ADMIRE FOR THE HALL OF FAME Alumni and friends are encouraged
to nominate men or women who have distinguished themselves and who
exemplify the values and traditions of Hinsdale Central. Nominees need not
be graduates. For a nomination form, go to HCHS Foundation - Hall of Fame Nomination Form As you all reflect on 2004, take a moment to think about how fortunate you are to say you went to Hinsdale Central. Your high school alma mater has a sterling reputation for graduating well prepared students. Yet in this era of tight school district budgets, we are concerned that insufficient resources are being allocated to those young people who need additional help to improve their academic abilities. To that end, the school is looking to expand on the Achieve Project, which focuses its effort on those students who need a little more support. The Foundation is working with the high school administration to encourage it to be as creative as possible in helping all students achieve their maximum potential. The Foundation assumes that the challenge can be met for funding this worthwhile program. Toward this goal, we ask each and every Central graduate to join with us and make a special contribution. The Foundation is a 501(c)3 entity, so your donation is tax-deductible (great for end of year tax planning). A donation in someone's name is also the perfect holiday gift for the hard-to-buy-for family member! Corporate donations are welcome, too, for this wonderful project. If you would like to know more about the Achieve Project and how you can help, please contact us. Your alma mater appreciates your support.
In that spirit, The Foundation would like to thank the Judd Family Trust for the incredibly generous donation after the passing of Dorothy Heiple Judd and Robert Judd from the Class of 1940. The donation will help the endowment that the Foundation is establishing for future programs at Hinsdale Central. The Foundation would also like to thank Darlene Haag for her gracious donation to The Foundation in memory of her late husband Roger E. Haag. He was a member of the class of 1948. Others have used The Foundation as a benefactor in times of change. Learn more here. If we can help in the procedure of establishing the Foundation as a benefactor, please contact us. Hinsdale Central Foundation Hosts Inaugural All-Alumni Reunion to Rave Reviews! The Hinsdale Central High School Foundation hosted its inaugural all-alumni reunion on Homecoming Saturday, Sept 25 2004. Alumni feasted on pizza while catching up with old friends, making new acquaintances, browsing yearbooks, and taking a trip or two down memory lane. It was such a success that the Foundation will hold another all-alumni reunion on Homecoming Saturday September 24, 2005 (save the date!). Details are still being worked out. if you are interested in helping organize the event, please contact [email protected] So, if you miss seeing your old friends on years where you don't have a class reunion, have friends from other classes you don't get to see, or just don't want to spend the time and effort of organizing a reunion, your prayers are answered! In other reunion news, Wally Larson and the Class of 1944 held a class reunion...in Seattle! It was held in August and from what can be reported, a good time was had by all. Mr Larson was also kind enough to lend his yearbooks to the all-alumni reunion. Thanks Wally! More than 2,500 graduates have registered with our alumni database and we want that number to grow. Have you logged in yet? Its easy and, once youve registered, you can search for friends by class year or last name. This is also the place to find out about specific class websites and reunion dates. Friends of Hinsdale Central High School are very welcome to register to receive future editions of this newsletter. Interested in joining a new Alumni Association to be sponsored by the Foundation? If youve got experience, ideas or advice that would get this project off the ground quickly, contact us at [email protected].
