COMPETITIVE CLUBS 

Chess Team

Two central players placed in the WSC tournament in March. Kevin Potts took second while Phil Lesko placed sixth.  

Ice Hockey

Coach Regis Kenna led the Red team to a third place finish and a semifinal playoff appearance in the ISHL’s top division. Coach Rick Kenna guided the Black team to a semifinal playoff in its division. Senior captain Chris Gomez was named to the All-State team of the Amateur Hockey Association of Illinois. He also received an $8,000 scholarship from the Chicago Blackhawks Alumni Association, the first Central player to be so honored. The scholarship is based on community service, volunteerism, good citizenship and hockey talent. Visit www.icedevils.org for more information on the teams.  

JETS

Junior Engineering and Technical Society placed fifth at the state finals of the Worldwide Youth in Science and Engineering academic challenge in Champaign in April.  

Lacrosse

Girls varsity took fourth place in league play. The team faced the league’s top contenders with fierce competition. Congratulations on a well-fought season. Find out more about girls’ activities at www.hinsdalegirlslax.com. For more about the boys’ teams, call Donna Shackleton at (630) 655-4645. 

LIFE Club

The regional competition of Family Careers and Community Leaders of America was held February 22 at College of DuPage. Central’s 12 contestants competed against teams from 15 other schools. Hillary Greene won Most Outstanding for cake decorating. Katarina Petras took Most Outstanding for career image. Patrice Yao won Most Outstanding for relish tray display. Alyssa Kent, Allissa Feller, Juliet Dietzen, Melissa Kooi and Sarah Bensfield were named Most Outstanding parliamentary procedure team. Jenny LaGrange and Jessica Lewis took first place among the preschool lesson teams. Jenny Nielsen placed second for cookie decorating. And Barb Korel won second place for semi formal apparel construction.  

Mock Trial The team placed fourth in the state competition in Springfield in March. Unfortunately, a severe snowstorm forced cancellation of the competition midway through team presentations.  

Odyssey of the Mind

This seven-member team took first place in the state competition and went on to the world finals at their own expense.  

Scholastic Bowl

The nine members of the varsity team placed second at the state tournament in March. All but two on the team are graduating seniors.  

NON-COMPETITIVE CLUBS 

Devils’ Advocate news magazine was published monthly.  

El Diablo, the school yearbook, came off the presses during the last days of school.  

Solstice, Central’s literary magazine, was published during second semester.
