![]() 1998 Inductee Dr. Janet L. Holmgren
Dr. Holmgren began her career as an Assistant Professor of English Studies at Federal City College, now the University of the District of Columbia. Between 1976 and 1982 Dr. Holmgren was an Assistant Professor of English at the University of Maryland and in 1982 was named Assistant to the Chancellor. In July, 1991, after serving first as the Associate Provost, then as the Vice-Provost of Princeton University, she was named the President of Mills College, Oakland, California. Many academic honors and awards have been bestowed upon Dr. Holmgren during her career. She was named a Princeton University Fellow 1968-69 and 1970-72. In 1988 she was named Outstanding Woman Administrator, University of Maryland, College Park, and was conferred an Honorary Doctor of Humane Letters from Mt. Vernon College in 1992. In 1996 Oakland University honored her with the Distinguished Alumni Achievement Award. Dr. Holmgren has been extensively published and is a sought after speaker on topics relating to women and education.
